An Overview

Co-curricular activities form the core of student life in PIEAS, since it helps to develop the overall personality of the student for facing the undaunted tasks and turbulent world of future. PIEAS literary society (PLS) rightly claims of being one of the most active societies of the institute, with many literary successes to its credit. The aim of PLS is to make the students fit for the future time and to develop a sense of competitive spirit, cooperation, leadership, diligence, punctuality, team spirit as well as to provide a backdrop for the development of their creative talents.
The society originated with the first arrival of first batch of BS (CIS) in October 2000. At that time it was known as English literary society (ELS), headed by Miss Madiha Shahid. The objective of the society was to arrange students mentoring sessions for helping students in academic as well as literary activities. By the time, the second batch of BS (CIS) students arrived in October 2001; it was felt that the ELS should be expanded so that it can involve all the students and not just those of BS (CIS).
It was also the need of time to include faculty members as patrons of the society. Hence, the PLS was born. The new born society considered itself a platform for all students of PIEAS. It started with carrying out activities that were truly lacking in PIEAS, activities that included debates and literary seminars.
The distinguished faculty members that are the patrons of PLS include the successive Rectors and senior faculty members such as Dr. A. Chughtai, Dr. Anila Usman, Dr. Muttawara Hussain, Dr. Navid Jamil, Mr. Abdul Jalil and Dr. Jamil Ahmed. The students that headed PLS during its successive years are:
  • Mr. Khubaib from 2001 to 2002
  • Mr. Ali Hussnain from 2002 to 2004
  • Mr. Ahsan Mehmood from 2004 to 2005
  •  Mr. Mirza Bilal Mughal from 2005 to 2006
  • Mr. Zeeshan Khaliq from 2006 to 2007
  • Mr. Muhammad Shahbaz from 2007 to 2008

  • Muhammad Junaid Ali 2012 to 2013
  • Ali Shad Khan 2013 to 2014
  • Zeeshan Nayyar Aziz Chughtai 2014 to Present

In the beginning the society only focused on events that included “debating Competition” and “Quiz competition”, but during the past three years, competitions such as “All-Rounder”, “Living On The Edge”, “Dramatics”, “Photography”, “Film and Documentary”, “Singing”, “Poetry”, “Sketch ‘n’ Draw” and “Essay and Story writing” have been added PLS is working with same zeal and zest as when it first came into being but with the elapse of time PLS spanned on different literary areas and now it’s on the front line for the encouragement of co-curricular activities and committed to provide a platform where all the deserving students around the country get an opportunity to recognize their talent.
In order to promote this notion PLS organizes a mega event Expedition every year. PIEAS Literary Society had successfully organized 6 national level events.
In 2010, PLS was re-constructed. After this new birth PLS has to focus on literary, fine arts, digital arts, photography and its innovative interactive events inside and outside the PIEAS.
